District Behavior Team
I am the Behavior Coordinator for Dickson County Schools. I work with all students, staff, administration, and district leaders.
This is my first year as an “official” Dickson County employee; I previously served in a consultant role as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst for three years. I worked in Hickman County Schools for 30 years before retiring. There, I was employed as a school-based speech therapist, as an elementary administrator and at the Central Office as Director of Special Programs. Upon retirement, I worked as a behavior analyst with children with Autism as well as with adults with intellectual disabilities.
"I'm still learning."
I am currently on the Behavior Team and serve as an Interventionist. I have been serving students in Dickson County for 10 years. I have been working specifically with children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder for 23 years. Before I worked for Dickson County Schools, I worked for a company out of Nashville called S.A.I.L (Strategies for Autism Through Individualized Learning) where at that time we were one of the only companies providing ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis). We served several school districts, including Dickson, and children in the home. My passion is working with the little ones in preschool where we can figure out how they learn best and really focus on building up their skills so they have the capabilities to be more successful once they are elementary school. My undergraduate degree is in Elementary Education and my masters is in Special Education, both from Belmont University.
"No significant learning can occur without a significant relationship."
I am currently serving as a member of the Behavior Team for Dickson County Schools. I am a Registered Behavior Technician.
I am currently one of four Behavior Interventionists for the district. I began serving DCBE in 2016. I served as a special education teacher with focus on behavior management for five years. I also served as a behavior interventionist for two years. I am also a current district level instructor for Nonviolent Crisis Intervention. I have a Bachelors degree in Early Childhood Education. I am certified as a general education teacher for grades K-5, special education teacher for grades PreK-12, and am currently pursuing a Masters degree in applied behavior analysis.
“It does not count as teaching until a child has learning something.”
"When little people are overwhelmed by big emotions, it's our job to share our calm, not join their chaos."
"Kids don't learn from people they don't like."
